CEC had memorable interaction with the Indian diaspora in Sweden.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Shri Gyanesh Kumar, who is on a visit to Sweden to attend the *International IDEA Stockholm Conference on Electoral Integrity* to be held from 10th to 12th June, 2025, had a memorable interaction with the Indian diaspora in Sweden.
The Chief Election Commissioner reiterated the Election Commission’s commitment to inclusive participation and civic engagement among Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs). He discussed key innovations such as *Online Voter Registration System* and *Electronic Transmission of Postal Ballot Management System (ETPBMS)*, which aim to ensure greater participation of overseas voters.
Shri Gyanesh Kumar has been invited to deliver the Keynote Address in the inaugural session of the Conference. The magnitude of Indian elections and the complexities of logistics associated with it are of special interest to *Election Management Bodies (EMBs)* across the world. More than 100 delegates from around 50 countries are attending the conference, which is being organised by the *International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA)* in cooperation with the *Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden*, the *Swedish Election Authority* and the *Australian Electoral Commission*.
CEC Shri Gyanesh Kumar will begin his bilateral meetings today with a meeting with senior officials including *Mr. Kevin Casas-Zamora*, *Secretary General* of *International IDEA*. He will then hold bilateral meetings with Chief Election Commissioners of about 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, South Africa, Indonesia, Mexico, Mongolia and Switzerland, which will further reinforce India’s commitment to global democratic cooperation and exchange of best practices.
Shri Gyanesh Kumar will also interact with other senior international officials including *Ms. Leena Riikkila Tamang*, Asia-Pacific Director of *International IDEA*, *Dr. Elsie T. Ngikembua*, Chairperson of the Election Commission of Namibia, and *Mr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed Irfan*, Election Commissioner of Mauritius.
The Stockholm Conference brings together heads of election commissions, policy makers and institutional leaders from across the world to discuss contemporary challenges related to electoral integrity. The key themes this year include *Disinformation*, *Digital Disruption*, *Electoral Security*, *Climate Risks*, and *Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Elections*.
As the world’s largest democracy, India has been a long-standing partner with International IDEA and has been actively contributing to the global discourse through its institutional innovations and democratic experiences. *India’s International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM)* is emerging as a premier institute for excellence in election management through training programmes and conferences.
A high-level delegation from the Election Commission of India led by CEC Shri Gyanesh Kumar is also participating in the conference, including *IIIDEM Director General Shri Rakesh Verma*, *Deputy Director General (Law) Shri Vijay Kumar Pandey*, and *Principal Secretary Shri Rahul Sharma*.
